The 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer is the perfect synthesis of performance, safety and fun with chockfull of technology, a formidable fuel-efficient engine and a Top Safety Pick by the IIHS.

The 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer, an outstanding Mitsubishi sports sedan, available in DE, ES, ES Sport, GTS and the all new Ralliart trims, gets a new standard 2.4-liter 168-horsepower four-cylinder engine on the GTS along with some new features. The 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer secured the Best in Class Vehicle Satisfaction Award for the compact segment as surveyed by AutoPacific, based solely on owners feedback.

The Lancer DE and ES are powered by a 2.0-liter, 152-horsepower DOHC MIVEC engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission or continuously variable transmission (CVT). Lancer GTS with an all-new 168-horsepower, 2.4-liter DOHC MIVEC engine is a powerful answer to the blahs.

The new Lancer Ralliart 4WD is powered by a 237-horsepower, 2.0-liter, DOHC MIVEC, turbocharged and intercooled engine mated to a new six-speed Twin Clutch Sportronic Shift Transmission (TC-SST), a sequential shift manual transmission with magnesium paddle shifters and two shift modes (Normal and Sport). The engine utilizes a proprietary All-Wheel Control (AWC) system based on the Mitsubishi Active Center Differential (ACD) and the system is controlled by the Mitsubishi AWC computer that delivers one heck of a driving experience. The ACD unit employs an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch center differential, vectoring drive torque to the front and rear according to different driving conditions to realize the best balance between steering response and traction characteristics on Tarmac, Gravel, or Snow surfaces. Lancer Ralliart is also equipped with front helical limited slip differential and a rear differential mechanical limited slip differential.

Building on the basic sporty design and proportions of the Lancer, the Lancer Ralliart exterior is characterized by its more aggressively styled front bumper design, rear bumper cover, dual outlet muffler and a lightweight aluminum, ducted hood that provides cooling air to the turbocharger. The interior design also puts greater stress on function and vehicle control.
