The lineup of diesel cars in the U.S. is more comprehensive in 2012 with more diesel vehicles being made available than in past years. These vehicles are being produced by a number of major manufacturers including Audi, BMW, Ford, Dodge, Chevrolet, GMC, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen. However, other manufacturers, such as Infiniti, Nissan, Subaru, Toyota and Hyundai offer quite extensive lines of diesel cars in other areas of the world, mainly Europe, but do not in the United States.

Audi offers a few models of diesel vehicles in the United States, including the A3 TDI and Q7 TDI. However, availability is a concern in finding and purchasing one of these vehicles, as there is currently a very small offering of the product in showrooms across the country. The A3 TDI is simply being replaced by a newer model for 2012. The Q7 TDI will remain unchanged for 2012 and is a much bigger alternative to the smaller sized A3 TDI.

BMW offers two diesel vehicles in the U.S. for 2012, the 3 series and the X5 xDrive35d. The 3 series is being significantly updated in terms of its interior design and overall styling. It will also include an optional turbo 4-cylinder gas engine as well as an 8-speed automatic. The X5 xDrive35d will remain mostly unchanged for the 2012 line.

Chevrolet offers two diesel vehicles in the United States for 2012, the Express Cargo & Passenger Van and the Silverado 2500/3500. There are not, however, any Chevrolet diesel passenger vehicles that are currently manufactured anywhere in the world. GMC follows the same pattern as Chevrolet. GMC offers the Savanna, and the GMC Sierra 2500 HD and 3500 HD.

Dodge offers just one vehicle, the Ram Pickup 2500/3500. Ford also only offers one diesel vehicles domestically, the Superduty F250/350/450.

The Mercedes-Benz line offers several diesel models for sale in the United States including the E350 BlueTEC diesel car, ML350 BlueTEC diesel SUV, GL350 BlueTEC diesel SUV, and the R350 BlueTEC diesel crossover wagon.

Lastly for 2012, Volkswagen will offer the most extensive line of diesel vehicles in the United States, with 6 being made available. These are the Beetle TDI, Golf TDI, Jetta TDI, Jetta Sportswagen TDI, Passat TDI, and the Touareg V6 TDI Sport SUV.
